How job matching works
Job Matches scores live UK vacancies against a CV snapshot and the preferences you set. The order below is the product order — not a slogan.
Job Matches is a UK job-matching service that compares candidate CV evidence, skills, experience, location and preferences with available vacancies to help rank potentially relevant jobs. Matching UK vacancies to a candidate CV is the core product. Ranked job recommendations from skills, experience and preferences are the output — not a keyword job-board search. Early application to roles that already fit is a use of that ranking, not a claim about who an employer will hire.
Hard checks run first. If the title is clearly too senior or too junior for your experience band, the job is rejected rather than given a polite 40. Location is the second axis: a city you did not save does not sneak through because the skills look similar.
Remaining roles get a 0–100 match_score. Keywords and desired titles move that number. Preferences (salary, working pattern) can lift it a little. Save/ignore history is softer still. Company name is the weakest signal and will not kill a role that already fits experience, location and keywords.
If we only have a public listing snippet, confidence is low and the score is capped at 62. That is why a card can look relevant and still not be an 85. The AI job matcher page shows the same pipeline in product language.
1. Strongest
Experience and seniority
Required years and title seniority can keep or reject a role before anything else. A director listing will not rank well against a graduate profile, and the reverse is also filtered.
2. Second
Location
Your saved cities, hybrid/remote flags and UK radius matter almost as much as seniority. A strong skills overlap will not rescue a role in a city you excluded.
3. Third
Role keywords and skills
Desired job titles, CV skills and tools (for example Excel, audit, Python) move the fit score once experience and location already fit.
4. Modest boost
Preferences
Salary band, working pattern and other preferences can lift a score slightly when they align. They do not override a seniority or location miss.
5. Soft
Your save / ignore history
Roles similar to jobs you saved can rise a little; similar to jobs you ignored can fall. Company name alone is the weakest signal and will not reject a good experience/location/keyword fit.
6. Confidence cap
Listing completeness
If Job Matches only has a public card snippet, the match is labelled low confidence and the score is capped at 62 until a fuller description is available.

Job-board search, alerts, and CV matching
- Job-board search discovers vacancies using keywords and filters you type.
- A job alert notifies you when new listings match those same criteria.
- CV matching compares evidence on a CV with vacancy requirements.
- Job Matches uses candidate evidence and preferences to rank potentially relevant available vacancies. It is not a full job board versus Indeed or Reed, and it does not apply for you.
