How to Write Achievements on a CV

Show employers what changed because of your work, not just what you were responsible for.

Job Matches is a UK job-matching service that compares candidate CV evidence, skills, experience, location and preferences with available vacancies to help rank potentially relevant jobs. Matching UK vacancies to a candidate CV is the core product. Ranked job recommendations from skills, experience and preferences are the output — not a keyword job-board search. Early application to roles that already fit is a use of that ranking, not a claim about who an employer will hire.

Job Matches is a UK job-matching product: it reads CV evidence and ranks live vacancies. This article stays informational. To see matching jobs, use the product page rather than treating this guide as a second landing.

CV achievements provide evidence that you can produce outcomes. They are strongest when they explain what you did, the context or scale involved and the result.

How is an achievement different from a responsibility?

A responsibility describes what the role required. An achievement describes something you delivered. 'Processed invoices' is a responsibility; 'redesigned invoice checks and reduced monthly reconciliation errors' describes an outcome.

What can you measure?

Consider revenue, savings, time, volume, accuracy, customer satisfaction, delivery, team size, project scale, compliance, availability or other measures genuinely relevant to your work.

What if your work is difficult to quantify?

Describe scope and outcome. Examples include resolving a recurring operational problem, delivering a complex project, improving documentation, training colleagues or receiving expanded responsibility.

Should every bullet be an achievement?

No. Employers still need enough context to understand your role. Combine concise responsibility information with the strongest evidence of performance.
