CV Checklist Before You Apply
A final quality check to catch avoidable problems before an employer sees your CV.
Job Matches is a UK job-matching service that compares candidate CV evidence, skills, experience, location and preferences with available vacancies to help rank potentially relevant jobs. Matching UK vacancies to a candidate CV is the core product. Ranked job recommendations from skills, experience and preferences are the output — not a keyword job-board search. Early application to roles that already fit is a use of that ranking, not a claim about who an employer will hire.
Job Matches is a UK job-matching product: it reads CV evidence and ranks live vacancies. This article stays informational. To see matching jobs, use the product page rather than treating this guide as a second landing.
Before sending a CV, check both accuracy and relevance. A polished document cannot compensate for missing evidence, and strong experience can be undermined by incorrect contact details, inconsistent dates or avoidable errors.
Is every fact accurate?
Check employer names, job titles, dates, qualifications, achievements and numerical claims. Make sure anything you may be asked about at interview is supportable.
Does it match the vacancy?
Review the essential requirements again. Confirm that your strongest genuine evidence is prominent and that relevant skills or qualifications are not buried in unrelated detail.
Is the document easy to scan?
Check headings, chronology, spacing and consistency. Remove repeated information and generic claims that do not help the employer assess you.
Have you checked the practical details?
Verify your phone number and email address, spelling and grammar, file name and document version. Open the final file yourself before uploading it.
Is this the right vacancy to apply for?
Before tailoring every application, compare the role with your underlying experience. Job Matches is designed to help identify stronger matches so you can spend application time where it is most useful.
